DETROIT (WWJ) - For the first time in seven years, you'll have to open up your wallet to get into the Detroit Historical Museum.

The museum, which has had free general admission since 2012, will return to a paid admission policy on November 1 after it lost more than $250,000 last year.

Admission will cost $10 for adults, $6 for kids ages 6 to 17, and $8 for seniors, students, active-duty military and first responders. Membership options are also available, starting at $45.

Residents of Detroit, Hamtramck and Highland Park can get a break on admission by signing up for a free "Detroiter Membership."

A complete summary of the new membership program is available at

The Detroit Historical Museum, located at 5401 Woodward Ave., is open to the public Tuesday through Sunday and will soon be adding evening hours on Thursdays (beginning Nov. 14).
