DETROIT (WWJ) - A Detroit mother is breathing a sigh of relief with her child safely in her arms after the 10-month-old was abducted during a car theft.

The incident unfolded around 3 p.m. Saturday in the 8700 block of Woodward, a few blocks south of Clairmount Avenue in the city's North End neighborhood.

According to police, the 27-year old mom parked her vehicle in front of a home and left her keys inside the car. She took her two minor children into the location and when she returned to retrieve her 10-month-old son, she discovered both her car and her child were gone.

Police were notified and within the hour, officers located the vehicle in the area of Boston and Dexter and recovered the child unharmed.

The child was evaluated by medical personnel and was reunited with his mother.

Police are still searching for the suspect. No description was provided, though reports indicate officers were looking for a 6' tall man dressed in all black.

The incident remains under investigation.
