GENESEE TWP., Mich. (WWJ) - Two people are dead, two are injured and one is facing charges after a crash early Friday morning in the Flint area.

According to Genesee Township Police Chief John Mulally, the five people, all in their 30s, were leaving a local park at around 12:30 a.m., headed south on Branch Road, near Carpenter.

"The driver lost control and hit a telephone pole," Mulally told WWJ's Beth Fisher, "bounced off the telephone pole and then hit a tree."

Mulally said a man and woman, who were passengers in the vehicle, died as the scene. A third person was taken a local hospital in critical condition while the fourth suffered non-life threatening injuries.

The driver fled the scene, Mulally said, but was tracked down and arrested in Flint.

Toxicology tests are being performed to determine if he was driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.

"It's up to the prosecutor, but I would think at the least it would be involuntary manslaughter on two of (the victims)," Mulally said.

Names of those involved are being withheld at this time.
