Driver Hit In Head By Falling Concrete From Freeway Overpass

(WWJ) A mid-Michigan woman is recovering after a piece of concrete fell from a bridge and hit her in the head.

According to the Ingham County Sheriff's Office, the 38-year old Jackson resident was driving on US-127, south of Lansing at around 8 a.m. Wednesday when concrete from the Barnes Road overpass broke free, crashing through her windshield.

The woman was taken to a local hospital where officials said she was treated for non-life threatening injuries. 

It was not immediately clear what caused the incident. 

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) was called to inspect the bridge. 

No additional injuries were reported. The woman's name was not released.
