Driver Killed In Fiery Crash On I-94 Near Metro Airport

DETROIT (WWJ) - Police say a woman was killed along I-94 near Detroit Metro Airport after her Jeep struck a disabled vehicle and burst into flames. 

The crash happened just after 1 a.m. Tuesday on eastbound I-94 near Middlebelt Road in Romulus. 

According to police, a Ford passenger car that was disabled and blocking the right center lane, occupied with 4-way flashers activated, was rear-ended by the Jeep. After the crash, the Jeep came to rest in the median and caught fire.

The driver of the Jeep, a 30-year-old Dearborn Heights woman, was pronounced dead on the scene. The driver of the Ford has a possible fractured back and was transported to a local hospital.

The crash remains under investigation.

Eastbound I-94 was closed for more than five hours while police were on the scene, but has since reopened to traffic.
