Driver On The Run After Striking Man On Bicycle In Dearborn

The suspect didn't stop at the scene of the crash.

DEARBORN, Mich. (WWJ) - The search is on for a suspect in a hit-and-run crash that left a Dearborn man hospitalized.

Dearborn police say they were called to the scene of a crash near the area of Warren avenue and Payne Street around 5:30 p.m. Saturday, where they found a bicyclist who had been struck by a car while traveling on the westbound shoulder of Warren.

Police say the driver of the suspect vehicle did not stop at the scene. 

The victim, a 51-year-old man from Dearborn, was transported to Dearborn Beaumont Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition Sunday afternoon.

The incident was captured on surveillance video and police released an image of the suspect's vehicle, which appears to be a tan or silver Ford. Authorities are asking for the public's help in tracking down the car and the driver.

Police are still investigating the crash and canvassing the the area where the crash occurred.

"The Dearborn Police Department will aggressively investigate this incident. We extend our support to the victim and his family during this difficult time,” Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad said in a written statement.
