EASTPOINTE (WWJ) - A 28-year-old Eastpointe man is being held on a $1 million bond after being charged as a habitual offender in a child porn case.

Keith Alan Arms, Jr. was arraigned Thursday on one count of using a computer to commit a crime and five counts each of distribution of child sexually abusive material and possession of child sexually abusive material.

The Michigan State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force began an investigation in January 2018 after receiving a tip about 65 child porn images being uploaded to an internet-based file sharing account. Upon further investigation, it was determined that the IP address associated with the account belonged to Arms.

Police executed a search warrant at Arms' home and seized three electronic devices. A forensic examination of the devices revealed numerous child porn images and videos.

Because Arms has two prior misdemeanor convictions for fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct, he is being charged as a habitual offender.

If convicted, Arms faces twice the maximum sentence on his primary offense – distribution of child sexually abusive material, each count which carries a maximum of seven years in prison.

Arms is due back in court for a probable cause conference on September 10.
