EASTPOINTE, Mich. (WWJ) -- An investigation is underway after a man and a woman were shot multiple times in Eastpointe Monday night.

Authorities say they were called to the area of Tuscany and Norton Avenues, north of 9 Mile Road, around 7 p.m. on the report of gunshots in the area. As officers were on their way to the scene, additional calls began to come in about the shooting.

Police say a 31-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman were both struck multiple times on Tuscany and the man tried to escape the shooter, fleeing east to the 23000 block of Brittany Street, where he sought shelter inside a home. The woman was discovered in a driveway in the 22000 block of Tuscany.

Officers and medical personnel attended to both victims before they were taken to area hospitals to be treated for their injuries. The woman was listed in critical condition, while police said the man was stable.

Police say they believe it was a targeted attack, but did not release any information about possible suspects. Officers recovered numerous shell casings from the scene on Tuscany, which appear to have been fired from "an assault-type rifle."

Anyone who has information about the shooting is asked to contact the Eastpointe Police Department at (586) 445-5100.
