CLAWSON (WWJ) - Authorities say an employee at a restaurant in downtown Clawson arrived for work at just the right time to call 911 about a fire inside the business before the flames really got out of hand.

The fire took off early Thursday morning at the Clawson Grill on Main Street, just south of 14 Mile Road.

"This morning an employee showed up to open the restaurant as usual and found it full of smoke, so he closed the doors and called the fire department," Fire Chief Troy Engle told WWJ's Mike Campbell. "We found a small fire in their cash register area and extinguished it quickly."

The building doesn't appear to have any structural damage and neighboring businesses weren't impacted.

An official cause of the fire remains under investigation but early speculation is perhaps an electrical fire.

No injuries were reported.
