GARDEN CITY (WWJ) - An elderly Garden City man has been charged with attempted murder in the shooting of his caregiver and her uncle.

Phillip Joseph Demouy, 75, was arraigned in the hospital Wednesday in connection with the incident at a home on Monday, in the 180 block of Belton, new Cherry Hill.

Investigating reports of gunfire, police officers arrived to find a 62-year-old Garden City man outside, suffering from a gunshot wound. Inside, police said, they found a second shooting victim -- a 42-year-old Garden City woman identified as Demouy's caregiver.

Both victims were taken to a local hospital for treatment; and both survived the shooting.

Following a two-hour standoff with police, Demouy was taken into custody and then transported to a hospital for "unrelated treatment."

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged Demouy with the following: Two counts of Assault With Intent to Murder, two counts of Assault With Intent to Do Great Bodily Harm, two counts of Felonious Assault, and four counts of Felony Firearm (using a firearm in commission of a felony).

Bond was set at $300,000 cash/surety, 10%.

Demouy is scheduled to appear in 21st District Court for a Probable Cause Conference on Sept. 30, followed by a Preliminary Examination set for Oct. 7.

Authorities have not said what prompted the shooting.
