(WWJ) -- More than 300,000 kids in southeast Michigan struggle with hunger every day and Gleaners Community Food Bank is doing what it can to help out.

Gleaners is holding its 10th annual "Mow Down Hunger" campaign and on Tuesday, one local business will match every donation, in an attempt to curtail the hunger problem and help children thrive in school. Weingartz will match every donation up to one million meals for "double your donation day."

Stacey Averill, senior director of marketing for Gleaners, says with every dollar donated, Gleaners can provide six meals for hungry kids and their families. Averill says many students who are struggling do receive free or reduced meals at school, but this program is making sure they're taken care of on nights and weekends.

"It gives them two of their three daily meals, but those kids are faced with the prospect of having little or nothing to eat at night and over the weekend. So this campaign really helps us make sure that every child who struggles with hunger in southeast Michigan knows where there next meal is coming from," Averill told WWJ.

"We know the impact because this is the 10th anniversary of our 'Mow Down Hunger' campaign and since 2009, we’ve been able to expand our programming to support kids in the community and their families because of match campaigns like this," Averill said.

Gleaners says a $30 donation can feed a child three healthy meals every day for two months. Donations can be made on the Gleaners website and more information about Weingartz's involvement is available on their website.
