(WWJ) An investigation is underway in Monroe County, after a Michigan State trooper was involved in a shooting.

According Michigan State Police, someone called 911 Monday afternoon to report a "suspicious white male" was walking in the street with a knife, yelling at cars.

Troopers arrived on the scene and at some point the suspect was shot, police said, but the man's condition is unknown at this time.

Where exactly it happened, what the suspect was doing in the roadway and details of what led up to the trooper discharging his or her weapon are also still unclear.

Police said the investigation was in the preliminary stages early Monday evening, and that the MSP Second District Special Investigation Section was en route.

This was the second instance in Michigan on Monday in which an armed person in the street was shot. In a separate incident, police said a CPL holder opened fire during the morning rush, killing a man who was pointing a gun at drivers in Eaton County. (More on that here).
