(WWJ) - Look up! All weekend long, the moon is going to be bigger and brighter than normal.

Cranbrook Astronomer Mike Narlock says Saturday night marks the second full moon of the calendar year -- which is sometimes referred to as the Snow Moon, due to the snow usually on the ground at the time. And this moon will be especially spectacular because it is also the first Supermoon of 2020.

"The moon is going to be a little closer to us than normal. So if you had a regular, old, average full moon in the sky and you compared it to the Supermoon, you would see that the Supermoon is actually a little bit bigger and a little bit brighter," said Narlock.

According to NASA, the moon will be at its peak brightness at 2:33 a.m. on Sunday, Feb. 9, and will remain full through Monday morning.

The next Supermoon will be on Monday, March 9, a day after we "spring forward" for Daylight Saving Time.
