DETROIT (WWJ) - A man is under arrest and facing criminal charges after a harrowing ride along a Detroit freeway in the middle of rush hour.

Michigan State Police say a woman reported that she and her husband got into an argument while she was driving on I-96 shortly after 5 p.m. Monday when he allegedly grabbed the steering wheel and attempted to force their car into a cement wall.

The woman was able to safely stop the car and hail a passing driver who took her to the police station.

After interviewing the victim, officers responded to the 17000 block of Cooley Street and when they arrived, the suspect was in the window of the house. He barricaded himself inside the home and refused to come out for several hours until he spoke with his mother. The suspect then surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody.

The suspect is now in custody at the Detroit Detention Center, pending charges.

No injuries were reported.
