(WWJ) A man has been arrested after a police chase with children in the car.

According to Michigan State Police, it all began at around 7 a.m. Thursday, when a Taylor Police Officer reported witnessing a domestic violence incident in a red Jeep on I-94.

MSP troopers heard about it on the scanner, and spotted the suspect vehicle on I-96. When troopers attempted to make a traffic stop, the driver didn't stop, police said, but fled — sideswiping the patrol car. There were no injuries.

After a short pursuit, the Jeep was boxed in by troopers on the Davison Ave. ramp.

Troopers discovered two small children in the Jeep, and both were taken to a local hospital as a precaution.

The suspect was taken into custody without further incident.

MSP said troopers will be submitting a request for the fleeing and elude, resist and obstruct and child endangerment through the prosecutor's office. The domestic assault portion of the investigation will be handled by Taylor Police Department.

The suspect's name was not released.
