ST. CLAIR SHORES (WWJ) - A 22-year-old man is behind bars, accused of driving drunk and causing a fatal freeway crash.

Michigan State Police said Gage Darga was arraigned 40th District Court in St. Clair Shores Friday on charges of operating while intoxicated causing death, and operating while intoxicated - second offense.

Darga was driving a pickup truck that smashed into the back of a car on eastbound I-94 near Little Mack Ave. in St. Clair Shores, at around 6 a.m. Tuesday, causing a multi-vehicle chain reaction crash, according to investigators.

The female driver of the car Darga rear-ended died, police said. Police are not naming the woman at this time.

Eastbound I-94 was closed at Little Mack for nearly six hours while police were investigating.

Bond was set at $25,000 cash for Darga, who police said has a previous OWI conviction. If he is able to post bond, he will be required to wear an electronic tether as his case moves through the courts. Police said Darga's mugshot was not immediately available.
