(WWJ) A Detroit man is jailed on felony charges after it's alleged he grabbed and walked off with a small boy in Mt. Clemens.

According to the Macomb County Sheriff's Office, the child was released unharmed following the incident Sunday afternoon, in the area of Hubbard and N. Highland St.

Investigators say a 19-year-old woman was babysitting her neighbor's children as they played outside when a stranger, later identified as 30-year-old Luzjaie Captain, walked up and began flirting with her.

The sheriff's office said Captain squirted the kids with a water bottle but walked away when the babysitter told him to leave the children alone. The young woman said the man came back with juice, however, and tried to give it to the kids.

When the young woman took the juice and again told the man to go away, it's alleged that Captain grabbed a 6-year-old male boy by the arm and began walking away with him.

The babysitter told deputies when she asked the man what he was doing he said he was taking the child to get candy. "The witness told the male no, and to let go of the boy, or she would call police," according to the sheriff's office report.

The babysitter followed Captain until he let go of the boy, and Captain continued walking.

Sheriff's deputies found the suspect in a parking lot on Groesbeck and N. Rose where he was seen next to a vehicle with the hood up. When he saw deputies, officials said Captain quickly shut the hood, hitting his head, and got into the car. Captain locked the vehicle doors, would not respond to deputies commands. and one point appeared to be unconscious, the sheriff's office said.

When deputies forced entry into the vehicle Captain quickly woke up, was checked out medically and arrested.

The sheriff's office said Captain refused to speak with deputies about the incident, officials said, but was positively identified by the witness in the case.

Captain is the subject of a missing person report out of Detroit in December 2019, according to the sheriff's office.  He was again reported missing the day of the incident, according to a post on the Detroit Police Department’s Facebook page.

Michigan Department of Corrections records show Captain is currently on parole for Resisting and Obstructing and has a prior conviction of Criminal Sexual Conduct 4th Degree.

“The witness stayed calm in a very traumatic situation and provided an accurate description. This helped deputies to locate the suspect quickly. It is appalling to think what may have become had deputies not taken this man into custody,” Sheriff Anthony Wickersham said, in a statement.

Captain was charged Tuesday with one count of Kidnapping – Child Enticement (felony) and one count of Police Officer – Assaulting/Resisting/Obstructing Causing Injury. He remains lodged in the Macomb County Jail awaiting an arraignment.
