Man Killed In Windsor Apartment Fire

The fire broke out around 8 p.m. Thursday.

WINDSOR, ONT. (WWJ) -- An investigation is underway after an apartment fire in Windsor claimed a man's life Thursday night.

Fire crews were called to the scene near Ouellette Avenue and Hanna Street around 8 p.m., where heavy smoke was coming from a ground floor unit in the back of the building, according to AM 800.

Windsor Fire officials confirmed on Twitter that a man was carried out of the burning building and after attempts to resuscitate him, he succumbed to his injuries. The victim's name and age have not been released.

The fire was fully extinguished and crews were working to remove smoke from hallways and units above the fire. Residents were expected to be able to return to their apartments by the end of the night.

Officials said two people and two pets were displaced by the fire. 

Officials will continue to investigate the cause of the fire Friday morning.
