ORION TWP. (WWJ) - A Pontiac man has been ordered held without bond, charged with first degree murder and assault with intent to murder in violent attacks on his own family

Garrett Lee Roberts, 29, was arraigned via video in 52-3 District Court in Rochester Hills Wednesday in connection with the death of his mother and the stabbing of his uncle last weekend.

According to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, 59-year-old Delora Margaret Roberts was strangled and stabbed by her son at their home on Rohr Rd. in Orion Township, early Sunday morning. Investigators said the suspect's 60-year-old uncle was awakened by the sounds of the attack; and when he tried to intervene, he too was stabbed.

The uncle ran to a neighbor's house and called 911, telling the dispatcher that he could still hear his sister screaming.

Minutes later, the uncle reported he saw the suspect walking down Rohr Rd., covered in blood and crying. Deputes responded, and took Garrett Roberts into custody.

The uncle was treated for his wounds and released, but Delora Roberts died at the hospital.

Garrett Roberts was treated for a suspected self-inflicted stab wound to the neck, released from the hospital and lodged in the Oakland County Jail.

According to the sheriff's office, Garrett Roberts has a criminal past that includes a felony sex offense, malicious destruction of property and obstructing police.

Authorities have not said what they believed prompted him to attack his mom.

He will remain held in the Oakland County Jail as he awaits his next court apperance, a Probable Cause Conference schedueld for Nov. 4.
