(WWJ) -- If you're looking to plan an outdoor trip somewhere in 2020, you may not need to look far at all.

Michigan was recently named the best place in the world for outdoor enthusiasts by tripsavvy.com.

The website recently published a list of the 19 best places in the world to travel to in 2020, sorted by different types of travelers -- i.e. outdoor enthusiasts, sports fans, food lovers and romance-seekers.

Of all the spectacular places in the world, Tripsavvy says Michigan is the best when it comes to outdoor exploration. On a list that spans the entire globe, countless Michigan hot spots are suggested for world travelers.

"With more than 19 million acres of forest and 3,000 miles of shoreline, Michigan is an underappreciated outdoor playground," writer Emily Hines says in the story.

The blurb on Michigan cites wonders of the Lower Peninsula mitten such as the "sky-high dunes at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore" and the "dense canopy of The Tunnel of Trees on MI 115."

In the U.P., Hines recommends Tahquamenon Falls, the Pictured Rocks, Isle Royale National Park and a slew of other beautiful locations.

New Orleans was named the No. 1 overall destination of the year, noting the city's brand new state-of-the-art airport, outstanding culture, cuisine and nightlife.

Other American locales on the list include Washington, D.C. (best for history buffs), Las Vegas (sports fans), Richmond, Virginia ("booze hounds"), Tucson, Arizona (geeks), St. Louis (families) and California's central coast ("plant moms").

Rome, Italy was named the best destination for romance, Rwanda the best bucket list destination and Puerto Rico the best place for "food-obsessed" travelers.

So if you were thinking of splurging on a big trip overseas in 2020, according to Tripsavvy, it might be worth it to stay close to home and see what Michigan has to offer.
