More Sandwiches Added To Lipari Recall Due To Listeria Risk

(WWJ) - Lipari Foods is expanding a voluntary recall to include more sandwiches that might be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

The company says several additional varieties of its Premo and Fresh Grab sandwiches were added to the initial recall, which was announced earlier this month

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism, which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

Three additional sandwiches under the Fresh Grab brand were distributed:

  • Breakfast Muffin Sandwich (best by date: 1/23/2020)
  • Chicken & Swiss Sandwich (best by date: 1/23/2020)
  • Turkey & Swiss Sandwich (best by date: 1/23/2020)

Five additional sandwiches under the Premo brand were distributed:

  • Meat Lover’s Sub (best by date: 1/21/2020)
  • Pub Burger (best by date: 1/23/2020)
  • Turkey & Cheese on Pretzel Sub (best by date: 1/23/2020)
  • Turkey & Swiss Sandwich (best by date: 1/23/2020)
  • Turkey & Garlic Mayo Sandwich (best by date: 1/21/2020)

No illnesses have been reported in relation to this recall.

The products were distributed exclusively by Lipari Foods in Warren to food service and retail stores throughout Michigan and 11 other states, including Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. Lipari Foods began shipping the products on January 3.

Consumers who have purchased these recalled products should not consume them. Instead, discard the products or return them to the point of purchase. For customer service, call Lipari at 800-729-3354.
