CLINTON TWP. (WWJ) - If you live in Macomb County and you've been meaning to go to Nordstrom, you'd better act quickly.

The retailer is set to close its department store at The Mall at Partridge Creek for good this Friday, September 13

Announcing the closure back in June, the retailer said it would shutter the anchor stor at the open air shopping center, on Hall Rd. in Clinton Township, so it can focus on its Rack discount stores and online sales.

Spokeswoman Emily Sterken says the store's 105 workers, who were informed of the coming closure Wednesday morning, will have a chance at opportunities other stores within the company.

The complete statement by Nordstrom continues as follows:

"We keep a close eye on the long-term performance of our stores, real estate agreements and the future needs of our business. We look at our business market-by-market to understand where we have opportunities to grow while also being as efficient as possible in serving our customers.

Looking at our needs in the Detroit market, we decided it made the most sense to close this store and focus on serving customers at our six other Nordstrom and Nordstrom Rack stores, as well as online. Our stores remain an essential part of our business and they give us the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with our customers and employees.

We’re working with each impacted employee to help them determine their next steps and help them each find other roles within Nordstrom."

In a statement, officials with Starwood Retail Partners, the operator of the mall, said Nordstrom has been "an excellent partner" to the mall and to Starwood.

"We understand their decision to close this location, as we’ve seen traditional department store anchors shrink their footprints," the statement said. "The Nordstrom closure will not impact the vibrancy of Partridge Creek, the premier lifestyle shopping center destination in southeastern Michigan, which draws 11.5 million visitors annually. We feature more than 90 distinct stores and restaurants, continue to add exciting new merchants, and are extremely proud of our engaging Live 360 year-round community programs.

"The retail landscape is constantly changing with consumers eager to explore new concepts, which include a rich variety of possible anchor tenants. We are continually evaluating new merchants and features for Partridge Creek and look forward to this opportunity to evolve our platform, as we continue to provide shoppers, diners and visitors at Partridge Creek with an engaging, active and compelling experience."

Nordstrom's departure will mean two of the mall's anchor stores will sit empty, after Carson's closed last year.

This local closure comes after Nordstrom in April shuttered two its full-line stores at MacArthur Center in Norfolk, Virginia, and The Mall at Wellington Green in Wellington, Florida.

Metro Detroit Nordstrom shoppers need not despair: No plans have been announced, at least at this time, to close the full-line Nordstrom store at the Somerset Collection in Troy.
