(WWJ) There is now a total of 105 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Oakland County.

That is the latest information, as of early Thursday afternoon, from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, up from 94 cases reported by the county in the morning.

Oakland County Executive Dave Coulter said five of those patients were listed in critical condition.

Thursday's number is up significantly from the 23 cases in Oakland County the previous day. The reason for that, Coulter explained, because more hospitals and private labs are conducting more tests, which allows for more confirmation of cases more quickly.

As of Thursday afternoon, the Michigan total was at 336 confirmed cases. Due to a lack of tests and too few testing locations, officials said there are likely many more existing cases yet to be confirmed. See a breakdown of cases by county HERE

The next update from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services is expected at 2 p.m. Friday. Stay tuned to WWJ for the latest.

Meanwhile, there has been one death so far in Oakland County in connection with the pandemic; one of three deaths reported statewide.  Officials said Thursday that a woman in her 50s with, who had an underlying health condition, died at McLaren Oakland Hospital in Pontiac. Further information, including the woman's city of residence, was not immediately released.

The other two deaths were in Wayne County.

The three main symptoms of coronavirus are fever, cough and shortness of breath. In order to mitigate risk of spreading COVID-19, everyone is encouraged to take action to reduce the spread, including: wash your hands often with soap and water or use hand sanitizer; avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth with unwashed hands; cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing; avoid handshakes; avoid contact with people who are sick; and stay home when you are sick.

Oakland County residents are asked to contact their healthcare provider for coronavirus testing. If you do not have a healthcare provider, call the 'Nurse on Call' at 1-800-848-5533.
