DETROIT (WWJ) - A 25-year-old man police are calling a "person of interest" in the shooting of a mother and her newborn baby is in custody.

Police told WWJ's Rob St. Mary that the arrest, late Friday afternoon, was on an outstanding warrant unrelated to the shooting.

At around 7 p.m. Tuesday, police said a 23-year-old woman was shot, along with her infant, by a masked man when she answered a knock at the door of her home on Freeland Street, in the area of the Lodge Freeway and McNichols, on Detroit's west side.

While the month-old baby girl was only grazed by a bullet, the woman was listed in critical condition at Sinai-Grace Hospital.

The person of interest remained held Friday night as Detroit police continue to investigate the case. His name has not been released.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 313-596-5240. Tips can also be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
