ROSEVILLE (WWJ) - A carjacking suspect who tried to flee from police by hiding in a neighborhood in Roseville wasn't very successful.

Michigan State Police say the incident unfolded around 8:30 p.m. Thursday when a helicopter patrolling the area of I-94 and 12 Mile Road spotted a possible suspect vehicle that had fled from local police just minutes earlier.

The vehicle was allegedly stolen and something had been thrown from its window. When troopers caught up to the vehicle, it exited eastbound I-94 at Gratiot Avenue and pulled into the Macomb Mall parking lot, where two occupants jumped out of the car and fled the area on foot.

The driver then took off into the residential streets around the mall trying to evade police, but troopers located the vehicle in a driveway on Macel Street and arrested the driver.

The driver, who was not identified, was turned over to Detroit police.

The incident remains under investigation.
