Police: Man Assaults Walmart Employee Who Caught Him Stealing

ROSEVILLE (WWJ) - Police in Roseville are trying to identify a man accused of assaulting a Walmart employee who apparentlty caught him stealing.

The incident happened around 3:25 p.m. on Friday, March 6 at the Walmart on Gratiot Avenue near 12 Mile Road.

According to police, the suspect was shopping in the store and then went through the self-scan checkout. Upon leaving, the suspect produced a receipt to a store employee and it was found he did not pay for some of the merchandise.

The merchandise was seized by the employee and the suspect continued as though he was leaving the store. He then turned around and assaulted the employee, throwing the employee to the ground and into a shopping cart, according to police.

The suspect then exited the store and fled in an older model, silver Chevy Impala.  

The employee, a 23-year-old Roseville man, suffered a cut to his head and was transported to the hospital for treatment.

The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 40-years-old, 6'2' to 6'5" tall and 225 lbs. with a full beard and mustache. He was wearing a black jacket with "RON" on the right breast and a globe-shaped logo with a green circle around it on the left breast with unknown writing to the left of the logo.
