SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) – Oh Christmas tree, oh Christmas tree, how I want to recycle thee!

While some communities offer curbside pickup for used Christmas trees, Oakland County is making holiday cleanup easy and "green" by offering free Christmas tree recycling.

And new this year -- trade in your Christmas tree and get a new tree in the spring!

Christmas trees can be recycled at 11 Oakland County Parks. Recycling drop-off sites are open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., seven days a week from Dec. 26 to Jan. 26.

There is no charge to drop off trees, but all plastic, tinsel and wire must be removed. Commercial trees are not accepted.

Follow the drop-off signs at these Christmas tree recycling sites:

  • Addison Oaks, north of Rochester
  • Catalpa Oaks, Southfield
  • Glen Oaks Golf Course, Farmington Hills
  • Groveland Oaks, near Holly
  • Independence Oaks - North, Clarkston
  • Lyon Oaks (Park), Lyon Township
  • Oakland County Farmers Market, Waterford
  • Orion Oaks, Orion Township
  • Red Oaks Golf Course, Madison Heights
  • Springfield Oaks (Park), Davisburg
  • White Lake Oaks Golf Course, near Waterford

Save the date: In return for recycling a Christmas tree, the Oakland Conservation District will distribute FREE white pine seedlings on Saturday, May 2, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 1580 Scott Lake Road, Waterford.
