DETROIT (WWJ) - A 27-year-old Redford Township man is in custody after dramatic police chase and car fire Sunday night.

Michigan State Police said troopers began to pursue the 27-year-old suspect a little before 9:30 p.m. when he was allegedly clocked speeding on Joy Road on Detroit's west side.

Troopers lost sight of the vehicle, police said, but after searching the area found it parked and on fire in a driveway on W. Parkway Street at W. Chicago.

Police said the driver fled on foot from the car and a Taser was deployed, but it didn't stop him. The man then ran between two house where he hopped a fence and disappeared.

Investigating troopers were eventually able to track down the suspect's identity and arrest him, police said.

He was lodged at the Detroit Detention Center awaiting expected charges including resisting and obstructing police, reckless driving and hit-and-run crash. His name is being withheld pending an arraignment.
