DETROIT (WWJ) - A Royal Oak man has been charged with murder, accused of gunning down another man at a nightclub in Detroit.

According to prosecutors, the suspect and the victim were among two groups of men arguing in the street outside Club Celebrity on Plymouth Rd., early in the morning of Nov. 1.

As 29-year-old Deangelo Haggen of Detroit began to walk away from the argument, it's alleged that 24-year-old Brian Allen Montgomery fired a handgun several times, fatally striking Haggen.

Montgomery fled from the scene in a car, and Haggen was pronounced dead by EMS at the scene. It was determined that he died from multiple gunshot wounds, according to prosecutors.

Hagan's cousin, Nate Clark, told WWJ's Charling Langon the family was devastated by the killing.

"He basically does all of the things you would expect someone training to to be the patriarch of your family would do," Clark said . "But unfortunately he won't get that opportunity now."

Montgomery is scheduled to be arraigned in 34th District Court Saturday on one count of second degree murder and one count of felony firearm.

Police said the argument was over a woman.
