According to the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy was on patrol Sunday in the area of Walnut Creek Drive and Silver Maple Drive in Macomb Township, where several thefts from vehicles had recently been reported. The deputy saw Zaia running between two homes before getting into a white Chevy Equinox which matched the description of a vehicle believed to be involved with the thefts.
The deputy made a traffic stop and spotted several items through the rear window that also matched items listed as stolen; purses, credit cards, and driver’s licenses.  A search of Zaia's vehicle later on uncovered three stolen handguns along with several pieces of identification and credit cards belonging to several different people, the sheriff's office said.
The recovered handguns and other items were reported as stolen out of Macomb, Washington, and Chesterfield Townships, according to the sheriff's office. And all of the property, officials said, was stolen from the owner’s vehicles.
“Please be mindful to keep your vehicles locked. Remember to roll your windows up and do not leave valuable items inside of your vehicle. Weapons should always be secured and never left within a vehicle, even if out of sight.” Sheriff Anthony Wickersham said, in a statement.

Zaia has been charged by the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office with the following six counts: 1. Weapons – Firearms – Receiving and Concealing (felony) 2. Weapons – Firearms – Receiving and Concealing (felony) 3. Weapons – Firearms – Receiving and Concealing (felony) 4. Weapons – Carry Concealed 5.
