ROYAL OAK, Mich. (WWJ) -- Police are investigating after multiple gunshots at a party at an Airbnb rental in Royal Oak over the weekend.

Just before midnight Saturday, Royal Oak police began receiving multiple 911 calls reporting gunshots in the area of Pingree and Virginia, just east of Main Street and north of 11 Mile Road.

Officers responding to the calls conducted traffic stops on several vehicles that were fleeing the area. One driver, a 20-year-old from Clinton Township, was found to be under the influence of alcohol and in possession of a stolen gun.

Officers established a perimeter in the area and quickly discovered the incident originated at a large party that was being held at a home in the 400 block of Pingree -- a house that was being rented out via Airbnb.

The party hosts posted about it on social media, according to police.

More than 20 people were still in the home when police arrived, but no one at the party cooperated with police "in any substantial way," Royal Oak police said.

No victims had been identified and it was unclear whether the Clinton Township man with the stolen gun was involved in the shooting.

An Airnbn spokesperson says it was an unauthorized party, meaning the host did not allow or consent to the activity and the host's housr rules expressly prohibited parties or events at that location.

"Unauthorized parties represent a serious breach of trust, and we are outraged at the reported violence. We have banned the booking guest from our platform and are providing support to our host. We also stand ready to support Royal Oak PD in their investigation," the company said in a statement.

Royal Oak police are still investigating the incident and are asking anyone with information to contact the Royal Oak Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division at (248) 246-3456.
