(WWJ) Michigan State Police have released video of a trooper-involved shooting in Monroe Township.

Troopers responded to the scene, in the area of Dunbar and Dixie Hwy.,  just before 4:30 p.m. Monday after a driver called 911 to report a "suspicious white male" walking in the street with a large knife, yelling at cars.

According to MSP, as trooper stopped the patrol vehicle, the subject unsheathed the knife.

The trooper then attempted to talk to the man, police said, who walked toward the trooper with the knife in hand. As seen in the video, the trooper kept backing up with his gun drawn, as the suspect continued to advance, and the trooper eventually opened fire.

Police said the wounded man — identified as an 18-year-old Monroe resident — was taken to St. Vincent Hospital in Toledo, Ohio where he was listed in critical condition on Tuesday.

The trooper involved is a six-year veteran of the Michigan State Police, is currently assigned to the Monroe Post.

MSP said an investigation into the incident by the 2nd District Investigative Response Team is ongoing.

No names have been released.

This was the second instance in Michigan on Monday in which an armed person in the street was shot. In a separate incident, police said a CPL holder opened fire during the morning rush, killing a man who was pointing a gun at drivers in Eaton County. (More on that here).
