MELVINDALE (WWJ) - School has been canceled for a second straight day for students in one Downriver district following a threat made on social media.

All schools in the Melvindale-Northern Allen Park District are closed again Tuesday "due to the nature and timing of the threat," according to Superintendent Kimberly Soranno.

Soranno sent a letter to parents outlining the threat, which was made on social media against Strong Middle School in Melvindale on Sunday night. She says it was an anonymous threat that they're taking seriously.

"The district values the safety of its students, personnel and the entire community above all else," Soranno said in the letter. "As always, we will take any needed steps necessary to continue to ensure the safety of our community."

The investigation is active and ongoing as the district works with police to resolve the situation.

Classes across the district were canceled Monday after what police called a "non-specific threat."
