NOVI (WWJ) - It may be the middle of winter, but some people are thinking about fishing and hoping to reel you in.

The Ultimate Fishing Show, the largest pure fishing show in the country, opens at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi on Thursday and runs through the weekend. The show features seven full acres of fishing boats, fishing tackle, fishing gear, fishing vacations, fishing seminars, and factory-direct exhibits.

Show Manager Ben Nielsen says this is the best time to get that new fishing boat ahead of the spring season. The show has more than 250 different boats on display from 40 manufacturers.

"There's a lot of deals to be had right now. There's a lot of rebates going on," Nielsen told WWJ's Ron Dewey. "A lot of times, ordering that boat can take six to seven weeks to get and a lot of people don't realize that. So, although it's January and it's a long ways from that, insuring that you have that boat by April and May for that great spring fishing weather that we get -- now is the time to do it."

Seminars will be presented every hour on five seminar stages, covering nearly every Michigan game fish species.

This year’s show also features the largest ice fishing display in the state. Along with a Shanty Truckload Sale, there also will be a vast variety of augers, electronics, tackle and gear for sale.

Some of the other highlights of the show include Lake Ultimate, the Hawg Trough, Ultimate Bass, Walleye and Salmon Clinics, Fish Cleaning Demonstrations, a Virtual Fishing Simulator, a Stocked Trout Pond, Fly Casting and Fly Tying Lessons, Shore Lunch Fish Fry and much more.

Show hours are: Thursday 1 to 9 p.m.; Friday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Sunday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Admission is $12 adults, $5 children 6 to 14, free for children 5 and under. On-site parking is $5.
