DETROIT (WWJ) - A man is in custody after a police chase along I-94 in Detroit last Friday.

Dash cam video released Tuesday by Michigan State Police shows the suspect vehicle swerving wildly on the westbound side of the freeway, near Moross, with a trooper on his tail.

Police said the driver, in a black Chevy Impala, briefly exited the freeway but got back on, driving up the embankment with his driver-side door open, before hitting the center median near Whittier. That's where when he bailed out of the vehicle, jumped over the divider and tried to flee on foot on the eastbound side of the freeway.

He didn't get far before he was arrested. "Lucky no one was hurt, and the bad guy went to jail," police said.

As for why the driver fled, police said he "had some warrants and didn’t want to stop."

The suspect's name was not immediately released, with charges pending.
