(WWJ) -- A cruise ship company known worldwide will soon set sail on the Great Lakes.

Viking Expeditions announced last week a set of cruises on Lakes Michigan, Huron, Superior, Erie and Ontario that are expected to launch in 2022.

The company announced three different eight-day expeditions -- from Toronto to Milwaukee (dubbed Niagara & the Great Lakes); Thunder Bay, Ontario, to Milwaukee (Undiscovered Great Lakes) and one from Milwaukee to Thunder Bay (Great Lakes Explorer). Prices begin at $5,995 per person.

Viking has been sailing all across the world for decades, including trips in the Anarctic, Europe and even the Caribbean.

Viking expects to have to ships set sail on the Great Lakes -- the Viking Octantis and the Viking Polaris. Both are Polar Class 6 ships, which allow them to operate during summer & autumn in medium first-year ice, according to the company's website.

The ships, each 665 feet long with a guest capacity of 378, will offer a variety of different rooms and suites available for passengers, as well as endless amenities.

On its website, Viking says its Great Lakes debut “will bring the newest and most modern vessels ever to explore this region of North America and will mark a major commitment to local tourism and economic development for the states of Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin, as well as the Canadian province of Ontario.”

The journey from Toronto to Milwaukee will make a stop in Detroit

"Experience the resilient culture of Detroit, nicknamed “Motor City” because it is considered the automobile capital of the world, which sits on the border with the US and Canada. Celebrate 20th-century American ingenuity during a visit to The Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation and tour the centuries-spanning collection of works at the renowned Detroit Institute of Arts museum. Learn about the city’s maritime heritage or discover Detroit’s role in the Underground Railroad," the company's excerpt about the stop in Detroit says.

With both ships under construction, the cruises won't set sail until the spring of 2022, but Viking is already booking trips on its website or at 1-800-284-5464.
