HAZEL PARK (WWJ) - What started as a traffic stop over window tint ends with a man behind bars.

Michigan State Police say the situation unfolded Friday when troopers stopped a car along I-75 in Hazel Park for illegal window tint and a defective brake light.

"Upon contact it was clear that the driver wasn’t telling the truth to questions and was acting suspicious," MSP Metro Detroit said in a tweet.

Troopers asked the driver, a 45-year-old Flint man, to get out of the car, at which point he allegedly admitted to illegally possessing a pistol on his hip.

A loaded Smith and Wesson 9mm handgun was recovered and the man was arrested. Police say further investigation revealed the pistol was registered to the driver. However, he did not have a concealed pistol license.

Charges are now pending.
