DETROIT (WWJ) - Hope you enjoyed the sunny, spring-like weekend — because winter is coming back this week.

Forecasters say a storm on the way will bring a messy mix of rain and snow to metro Detroit.

Things will start out OK on Monday, with a little sunshine and temperatures rising into the 40s. WWJ AccuWeather Meteorologist Dean DeVore says we should stay dry into the early afternoon before this all begins Monday evening.

"Then later this afternoon/this evening the rain's going to overspread the area from southwest to northeast," DeVore said. "Now with this initial little push their could be some snow or some, but I think we're going to settle out in most places in metro Detroit into rain and drizzle, holding in the low to mid 30s."

DeVore said it will be chilly on Tuesday, with more rain or drizzle expected.

What forecasters really have their eyes on is Tuesday night into Wednesday.

"That's when we have a chance for this rain to go over to snow; the steadiest snow into Wednesday morning." DeVore said. "Then it goes mainly over to heavy show showers, I think, Wednesday into Wednesday night."

On Monday night the National Weather Service in Detroit issued a winter storm watch for all of southeast Michigan that will go into effect Tuesday evening and last until Wednesday night.

So, how much snow can we expect?

The NWS says most areas near Detroit can expect 4-5 inches, with locations to the north seeing around 6 to 8 inches.

Looking ahead a bit more, DeVore says Thursday and Friday will "really feel like winter" with windy conditions and temps down in the 20s, feeling like the teens, along with more snow showers possible.
