(WWJ) More bad news for fans of elephant ears, corn dogs, Ferris wheels and yellow-striped cups of lemonade: The Oakland County Fair Board voted to cancel the traditional 2020 Oakland County Fair, July 10-19, 2020.

The 2021 fair will be held July 9-18, 2021, following the same pattern as the Aretha Franklin Amphitheatre, which announced all shows are canceled and moved to 2021.

“We are greatly disappointed that we won’t be able to provide the full fair experience for the thousands of guests we have each year due to the COVID19 pandemic. The safety and health of the entire community, volunteers, guests, exhibitors, vendors, employees and board members is our top priority. With this priority in mind and the recent announcement from Governor Whitmer that our State may only be in phase 5 of the MI Safe Restart plan at the starting date of our fair the decision to cancel the event was made,” said LC Scramlin, General Manager.

To help vendors, the fair board decided to support them with an exhibitor-only competition, without the public or a carnival, which will meet the State of Michigan’s phased reopening plan pending health department approval or a virtual competition if group sizes are too large for in person competition. Details will be sent directly to our registered exhibitors.

"We are looking forward to welcoming everyone back in 2021 to celebrate the return of the Oakland County Fair, July 9-18, 2021," Oakland County fair organizers wrote.

The fair joins a list of things canceled this summer that's almost too long to list: All shows at the Aretha Franklin Amphitheatre have been canceled for 2020 and rescheduled for 2021. Scheduled to appear are Sheila E., Monica Blaire, Maxwell, the Isley Brothers, Chaka Khan, Jeezy, T.I., Tower of Power and Gerald Albright.

Every artist is expected to play next summer instead, although no dates have not been announced.
