ADDISON TWP. (WWJ) - An Oakland County Sheriff's deputy is recovering after he was thrown off and stepped on by a horse.

It happened Sunday, at Addison Oaks County Park in Addison Township.

According to the sheriff's office, a 28-year-old deputy, who has been with the Sheriff’s Office Mounted Unit for three years, was ejected from his horse during a training exercise.

While he was on the ground, officials said the horse stepped on the deputy's chest and leg.

He was treated by paramedics at the scene and then taken to the Ascension-Providence Hospital Rochester for observation.

They will be in the hospital overnight, but thankfully, they should be okay," the Sheriff’s Office's said, in a Facebook post, adding: "Nothing is routine in our world."

The deputy was released from the hospital on Monday. His name was not released.
