Sheriff's Office: Oakland County Woman Injured, Dog Killed By Hit-And-Run Driver

July 26, 2018 - 5:44 pm

ORION TWP. (WWJ) - Oakland County authorities are looking for a driver who hit a pedestrian and her dog, and then just drove away.

The dog was killed and the 66-year-old woman was injured in the incident, Wednesday evening, in Orion Township.

According to the Oakland County Sheriff's Office, the victim was walking westbound on Morgan Rd. in the eastbound lane, so that she could see oncoming traffic, when she and her dog were struck from behind. The victim yelled for the driver to stop, but the vehicle continued away from the scene, heading westbound on Morgan Rd.

Another driver stopped to help, called 911, and stayed with the injured woman until first responders arrived.

The victim, who suffered a fractured arm, was taken by EMS to a local hospital for treatment, officials said. Her dog -- a 10-year-old poodle mix -- did not survive the crash and was picked up by the Oakland Animal Hospital.

Deputies searched the area, but couldn't find the suspect vehicle, which was described as a large, white SUV with two windows in the rear and long, vertical brake lights.

As an investigation continues, detectives are looking for tips from anyone who witnessed the crash, or who can help identify the wanted driver.

Those with information should call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP. There is a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. As always, all tips and rewards through Crime Stoppers are completely anonymous.
