Oakland University Police After Multiple Reported Larcenies: 'Stay Vigilant'

Cash, cell phones and other valuables have been stolen.

ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. (WWJ) -- Oakland University police are reminding the campus community to remain vigilant, as a string of robberies have taken place over the last several days.

OUPD says they have received multiple larceny reports in recent says, with the incidents occuring in offices in a variety of buildings around the campus.

Officials say cash and cell phones have been taken from unattended purses on numerous occasions, with all of the larcenies occurring between 9 a.m. and noon.

Several witnesses have described the suspect as a "very thin, black male" in his 20s. He is approximately 6 feet tall with no facial hair. Police say the man has been seen wearing a black ball cap, brown pants and a jacket that possibly has an insignia on the chest. He has also been seen carrying a laptop computer bag.

OUPD is reminding the campus community that purses, wallets, cell phones, keys and other valuable itmes should be kept within reach at all times or in a drawer or closet, even if you are only leaving the area for a short period of time.

If you plan to stay late in your office, make sure someone you trust knows where you are and when you plan to leave.

OUPD offers “Safe Walks” for anyone that feels uncomfortable walking to their vehicle alone after hours.

Everyone should be aware of their surroundings and report any suspicious activity to police.
