INKSTER (WWJ) - A 31-year-old Dearborn Heights man faces charges after he allegedly ran from a traffic stop carrying a loaded gun.

Michigan State Police say the suspect was in the back seat of the car. He was stopped by troopers in Inkster for blowing through a stop sign at about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday.

As troopers approached the car, the man took off running, carrying a backpack. A K-9 unit responded to the scene and tracked the man to a nearby backyard.

Police say the suspect had a loaded 9mm Heckler and Koch pistol in his backpack. He's now facing multiple charges.

Unclear is whether the other three occupants in the vehicle were charged.
