(WWJ) At approximately 5:20 a.m., Michigan State Police was notified that the Townsend Pedestrian Bridge had collapsed onto westbound I-94, near Van Dyke, after a truck reportedly struck it.

The freeway was completely blocked for a time.

No injuries were reported.

For the Friday morning commute, MDOT had westbound I-94 closed at Gratiot Ave., with traffic getting back on at E Grand.

Following an inspection, MDOT said it was determined that the whole bridge would need to be removed.

After several hours of cleanup at the scene, the freeway completely reopened to traffic a little after 3 p.m.
