Police Believe Remains Found In Canton Sewer Are That Of Missing Man

CANTON (WWJ) - Remains found in a Canton Township sewer are believed to be that of a 35-year-old Canton man who had been missing for some time.

When the discovery was made Monday by Department of Public Works crew in a neighborhood near Saltz and Canton Center Roads, Canton police said foul play was not suspected, and that there was no danger to the community. 

Updating the media on the case on Wednesday, the Canton Police Department said it's believe that the man died of suicide, although police still waiting on official identification of the body by the Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Police are not releasing the man's name at this time. 

"Police detectives have made contact with the missing man’s family." the Canton PD said, in a statement. "No additional information will be released, preserving privacy for the family of the deceased."
