Police Continue To Investigate After Officer-Involved Shooting In Warren

November 07, 2018 - 7:33 pm

WARREN (WWJ) - Two police officers in Warren are being investigated after firing on and injuring a man in his home.

Warren Police Chief Bill Dwyer says it all began around 1:40 p.m. when police received a 911 call regarding a man with a gun in a home on Hartlein  Street.

When officers arrived, the man was on the basement stairs, highly intoxicated and allegedly threatened police with a gun, according to police.

"He's intoxicated, he's very depressed and very suicidal -- so take all those factors into consideration," says Dwyer.

"The preliminary information is that the subject pointed a weapon at the two officers and the officers responded with gunfire on the subject - in fear for their lives. There's a possibility that he had fired, we are still in our preliminary stages of the investigation."

The main was struck in the groin and is expected to recover.

"Probably painful but he's in stable condition  -- the officers are very fortunate, that at this stage of the investigation, I think they did everything according to all the rules and regulations and could possibly have been killed themselves," says Dwyer.
