Shootout Outside Detroit Coney Island Causes Panic

June 25, 2019 - 6:44 am

DETROIT (WWJ) - Police are investigating a reported shootout that happened outside of a 24-hour coney island restaurant on Detroit's west side.

The incident happened in the parking lot of the Super Coney Island on Wyoming and Lynden. More than a dozen shell casings were left behind, and the driver side window of Chevy Trailblazer was shattered.

Mohammad Hassanth was working at the Marathon gas station across the street when the gunfire broke out. He and customers inside the station took cover.

"I just heard some gunshots and two guys, I guess they were kind of going at it, you know, just like in a movie pretty much. The next thing I know, I heard glass shattering and people running, screaming," Hassanth told WWJ's Charlie Langton.

It's unknown if anyone was injured. Officers on the scene would only say the investigation is ongoing.
