Police Search For Pair Who Robbed 77-Year-Old Woman In Detroit

April 05, 2018 - 9:39 am

DETROIT (WWJ) - Police in Detroit are searching for two people who robbed a woman after forcing her to go to an ATM on the city's west side.

The incident happened between 2 and 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Match 6 in the 20000 block of W. 7 Mile, near Evergreen Road.

According to police, the 77-year-old victim was pumping gas when she was approached by a black male asking if she would like to become a part of an investment group. The victim was then approached by a black female stating that she knew the victim from church.

The victim finished pumping gas and got into her car when, according to police, the female suspect entered the vehicle with her hand in her pocket. Police say the suspect instructed the victim drive to Bank of America at Oakman and Livernois, then instructed her to withdraw an undisclosed amount of cash.

The victim was then told to drive to Evergreen and 7 Mile to meet the other suspect, but the male never reappeared. The female suspect then took the cash from the victim and fled on foot in an unknown direction, according to police.

The victim was not injured.

Police have released photos of the suspects in hopes someone might be able to identify them. The male suspect is believed to be 60-years-old, while the female is described as about 45-years-old.

Anyone who recognizes these suspects or has any other information is asked to contact police at 313-596-5840. Tips can also be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
