Heavy Police Presence In Wayne After Reported Bank Robbery

Michigan State Police were using canine units to track a suspect.

WAYNE, Mich. (WWJ) -- There is a heavy police presence in Wayne Wednesday evening after a reported bank robbery.

Multiple Wayne Police Department and Michigan State Police vehicles were on the scene at the Chase Bank located in the area of Wayne Road and Michigan Avenue around 6 p.m. State police tweeted they were on the scene with canine units assisting with a track.

Details are light, but police did confirm to WWJ there was a report of a robbery at the bank.

WWJ tipster Pam from Wayne says the building was surrounded by police and there were not many civilian cars in the parking lot, as it was after hours.

Pam says it's not something she expected to see in Wayne.

"Not in my town -- it's pretty quiet," she told WWJ.

A helicopter was reportedly above the scene in downtown Wayne.
