Police Seek To ID Murder Victim After Human Skull Found In Detroit

It's a female, 21 to 29 years old

May 11, 2018 - 4:08 pm

DETROIT (WWJ) - Police are asking for the public's help to identify a woman whose skeletal remains were found in Southwest Detroit.

According to Sgt. Shannon Jones, lineworkers on the job April 10 -- on an empty, burned out block in the 14000 block of Ward, near Schoolcraft and Schaefer Highway -- found a human skull behind a vacant home.

Jones said the victim, who has most likely been missing since 2017, was fatally assaulted -- but may have been killed elsewhere and her body dumped at the site. Police are not stating specifically, at this time, how the woman died.

The victim is a female, possibly black, ranging in age from around 21 to 29 years old. She was tentatively 5'4" tall, give or take a few inches.

Along with skeletal remains, investigators also found a pair of True Religion jeans, labeled as a size 32 waist, a black cloth belt and blue leather women's Polo brand shoes size 8 (pictured above). A blue shirt was also found a little ways away, and police are not sure if it belonged to the woman.

Police have been searching the missing persons database, where Jones said they found 85 black females who had been reported missing last year. She said police said police are awaiting  DNA match results on as many of those cases as possible as an investigation continues.

Anyone who has a loved one missing that matches this description should call Detroit police. Anyone with information that could help investigators with this case should call the Crime Stoppers anonymous tip line at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
